Evan Turner Dunks.

College basketball is upon us and Evan Turner is ready.  He led his team to a 100-60 victory over the unranked Alcorn State.

Evan Turner had a monster game.  He put up video game numbers (especially his rebound numbers for a 6-7 guard/forward).  He had 14 points, 17 rebounds, and 10 assists.  He displayed his overall game and unselfish play.  He also made history by record only the second triple-double in Ohio State’s basketball history.  The other triple-double was recording by Dennis Hopson in 1986.  Dennis Hopson had 27 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists in a win over Ohio University.

Evan Turner, who probably would have been a first round pick if he came out in the 2009 NBA draft, had 12 points, 12 rebounds, and 8 assists by halftime.  What surprised me was the fact that he grabbed 17 boards.  He really made an effort to attack the glass aggressively.  Basically, he was just doing what his coach asked of him.

 ”I just try to do my job. Coach asked me to rebound, find the open shots, make shots. I never ever dreamed of having a triple-double or anything like that. This is cool and I’m really excited.”

Turner also added two blocks and two steals.  He shot 6-12 from the field and of his 17 rebounds, 6 were offensive rebounds.  The Buckeyes held the Braves to 34.4% shooting while shooting 53.4% themselves.  Ohio State out rebounded Alcorn State 43 to 32 and forced Alcorn State to commit 13 turnovers.  The Buckeyes also had the assist advantage dishing out 29 assists to Alcorn State’s 7.  Talk about outperforming a team.  Ohio State outclassed them in every major statistic.
