Deon Thompson and Ed Davis.

This game had a lot of buzz surrounding it.  People wanted to see how Isiah Thomas would do in his first game as a college head coach for Florida International University (FIU).  As expected, he lost the game.  Not because of his ineptitude as a head coach, but because he was facing a superior opponent; The National Champion North Carolina Tar Heels.

Deon Thompson and Ed Davis simply dominated the game.  They both had double-doubles and combined for 33 points, 22 rebounds, 4 steals, 4 blocks (Ed Davis had all 4 blocks), and 12-19 from the field (63% shooting).  Deon Thompson had 20 points, 10 rebounds (6 of which were offensive), and 3 steals.  Ed Davis had 13 points, 11 rebounds, 2 assists, 1 steal, and a monstrous 4 blocks.  Those two guys are beasts and space eaters.  The senior Deon Thompson is 6-8 and 245 pounds.  The sophomore Ed Davis is 6-10 and 215 pounds.

I can’t wait to see those guys in the NBA.  Deon Thompson is good, but I think that Ed Davis has more potential to thrive at the NBA level.

Isiah Thomas

To Isiah’s credit, his team didn’t give up.  They fought, played hard, and took their butt whipping like men.  They were just out of their league and over their heads.  FIU was held to 36.8% shooting and got killed on the boards 42-21.  On a positive note, FIU did force North Carolina to commit 26 turnovers, but it just wasn’t enough.

I hope Isiah can one day make a difference to FIU.
