Kareem Abdul-Jabbar is a man with a lot of pride. Instead of felling sorry himself, he is spreading awareness about CML. He is a spokesman for Novartis, a pharmaceutical company that makes medicine to treat CML. Over 22,000 people in the U.S. are living with the disease. CML is normally diagnosed in people in their mid- to late 60s, and in most cases affects more men than women.

Kareem does his famous "Skyhook" over Jordan.
Jabbar said the following:
“There is hope. This condition can be treated. You can still live a productive, full life. I’m living proof I can make it. I want to spread the word.”
