A day after the New Orleans Hornets got their butts kicked by the Phoenix Suns (124 to 104), Byron Scott lost his job.  I guess the Hornets’ organization was just tired of the losing.  New Orleans is off to a 3-6 start and that’s not good enough considering the talent that the Hornets have.  Deep down, I’m wondering if Chris Paul had anything to do with Scott’s sudden dismissal (actually, the Hornets considered firing Scott last year).

The Hornets had a great run during the 07-08 season (Bryon Scott won coach of the year during the 07-08 season) and they took a couple steps back last season after they got beat in the first round of the playoffs.  And now this, a 3-6 start.

For the last three seasons, the team has been on a downward trend.  And believe me, Chris Paul (the teams best player and leader who is averaging 26.1 points per game and 9.1 assists per game) was not happy with the team’s direction.  I think that Chris Paul went to the higher ups and demanded a change.  Paul was already pissed that the team traded his boy Tyson Chandler for Emeka Okafor (who missed all of the pre-season with a bum toe).  With Okafor’s absence, the team’s chemistry wasn’t there, which could have contributed to the teams slow start.

But, you know what they say.  When a team sucks, the coach is responsible.  Players are not held as accountable for a team’s woes as coaches are.  Thus, coaches are expendable.  Coaches are also easier to move, because nobody pays to see coaches coach.  People want to see players play.  People want to see winners.

Byron Scott’s overall record as coach is 352-355.
