Brandon Jennings

Brandon Jennings.

Brandon Jennings put up video game numbers against the Golden State Warriors.  He had 55 points, 5 assists, and 5 rebounds.  Very impressive, although not too hard to believe since Golden State is not much of a defensive team.  Jennings had his way after going scoreless in the first quarter.  He was able to score in a multitude of ways.  He went to the hole, shot runners, shot floaters, he hit threes, and hit mid-range jumpers.  I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, he has the best chance of any rookie to win the Rookie Of The Year Award.  As a matter of fact, he will win the Rookie Of The Year Award.

With this performance, Brandon Jennings has become only the third player in Milwaukee Bucks history to score 50 or more points in a game.  The other two guys were Michael Redd (He still plays for the Bucks, but is currently injured) who scored 57 points before and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (One of the all-time greats).  Jennings also broke Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s rookie franchise scoring record for the Milwaukee Bucks of 51 points.

Jennings on draft day. He was selected first round 10th pick by the Milwaukee Bucks.

The best thing about Jennings’ 55 point performance is the fact that the Bucks won the game and are off to a 5-2 start.  This is one of the best starts that the Milwaukee Bucks have had in a while.  What also makes this performance great is that the Bucks had to come back from a deficit to win the game.

I was happy to see Brandon take on the leadership that it takes to run the point guard position in the NBA.  He saw what his team needed and he delivered.  He scored 29 points in the third quarter, 16 points in the fourth quarter, and hit 7 threes to solidify his team’s victory.  He took over the game and brought his team back.  He could have given up after a bad first quarter, but he remained cool and played his game.  He did what was necessary for his team to win.

Brandon Jennings on his performance:

“I was just trying to do whatever I could to help us win. We were out of sync in the first half and really needed to step it up.”

This game not only shows signs that Brandon Jennings will win Rookie Of The Year, it shows that he has the potential to be a great NBA player.

Milwaukee Bucks’ Coach Scott Skiles’ take:

“It was a very, very impressive performance for anyone, let alone a rookie in his seventh game. We just gave the ball to Brandon and let him go to work.”

Golden State Warriors’ Coach Don Nelson’s take:

“We tried to handle him every way possible.”
