The worst team in NBA, the New Jersey Nets, have fired their coach Lawrence Frank.  The Nets who have an 0-16 record are one loss away from having the worst losing streak in NBA history.  It’s kind of funny because Frank began his career with a 13 game winning streak and now it ends with a 16 game losing streak.  I do not agree with the decision to fire Lawrence Frank, but in the realm of professional sports, the coaches are always first to go when a team struggles.

Here are a few reasons why Lawrence Frank should not have been fired:

  1. Two of his best players were traded away last season.  Vince Carter was traded to the Orlando Magic and Richard Jefferson was traded to the San Antonio Spurs.
  2. After a break out season last year, Devin Harris missed the first 10 games of the season.
  3. The team that Frank has is very inexperienced.

Based on the above, I’m not sure who can coach this team and achieve better results.  The Nets suck and that’s the bottom line.  If anything, the Nets organization as a whole should be blamed.  They got rid of New Jersey’s best players so that they would possibly have cap space for the LeBron James sweepstakes.  The problem is that I’m pretty certain the LeBron is not going to play for the Nets.  Why would he?  LeBron wants to win a championship and even if LeBron can make the Nets a better team, he won’t make them a championship contender.

Tonight the New Jersey Nets play against the Los Angeles Lakers.  Jersey might as well get ready for 0-17 to tie the worst losing streak in NBA history because they ain’t gonna beat the Lakers.  It’s a safe bet that the Nets will break the record and become 0-18 because they face the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday and they ain’t gonna beat Dallas either.

The Nets do need to make major changes, but firing the coach is not one of them.
